About
Why a website about Auchenorrhyncha?
The main reason to start a website on Western Palearctic Auchenorrhyncha was the lack of summarized information on taxonomy, ecology and distribution in this area. While searching the web, scanning books, reading publications and digitizing collections, I came up with the idea to publish all this collected information on a website.
This website has several goals:
- Making this most interesting group of insects accessible for a wider public, from entomologists to nature photographers who want to look up which species they photographed.
- Collecting as much information as possible on distribution, ecology and taxonomy of Western Palearctic Auchenorrhyncha and showing this information in a clear way.
- Collecting photos of as many species as possible.
- Creating several, easily usable identification keys.
How is this website built?
Many people contributed to this website as it is today. I am especially thankful for the help of Jelle Jacobsen for building the entire website from scratch. Without his help this project would have failed in the earliest stage. Several people helped through the contribution of publications, information and photos. Especially thanks to Gernot Kunz for providing pictures of hundreds of species and his help in the search for specific literature. A list of contributors can be found below. As this website is non-financed, every single contribution is done voluntarily.
